ANTI-GANSTERISM AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TAKEN TO ORKNEY IN KANANA.

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Crime Prevention and Partnerships Directorate, together with Kanana SAPS and CPF, undertakes the Anti-Gangsterism campaign to the community of Ward 26 Desmond Z section grounds in Kanana.

CPF chairperson Mr Modiakgotla said crime in the Kanana area is a predicament. "Our children have turned themselves into monster. They have joined gangs to do all sorts of crimes as it has been experienced by the larger community. The CPF together with the police, are fighting this disturbing issue of our children who identify themselves with gansterism. It has come to an extent that these gangsters even abuse foreign nationals' businesses to force them to pay them a certain amount of money on a monthly basis, saying it's a protection fee".

Kanana station commander Colonel Selehelo gave an overview of crime statistics recorded by the station from October 2022. These include murder and being the highest, attempted murder, assault GBV, rape and burglaries at residential areas. "I urge the larger community to work hand-in-hand with the police to help mitigate the issue of gansterism and high crime rate in Kanana" , says Colonel

The stakeholders who graced and participated on the day's program were SAPS Kanana, Department of Correctional Services, Social Development, Kanana Youth desk, Kanana CPF, Ward 26 & 27 Councillors and the community members of Desmond Z section in ward 26.
